About the Artist

John Hauser - Biography

Plein Air Colorist

Before becoming a full-time artist, longtime Oakland resident John Hauser enjoyed a forty-year career in ornamental horticulture and corporate holiday display, servicing and designing for clients throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

A series of life events and challenges converged at once, causing John to reevaluate his purpose in 2014.  The outcome was positive.  His decision to take a calculated risk was pivotal in changing his life’s course for the better – resulting in the realization of a lifelong dream to become an oil painter and artist.

Under the guidance of Master Artists throughout the US, John quickly realized he’d found his home in the “colorist” movement as taught by Cape Cod School of Art.

John has studied locally under the mentorship of Petaluma artist, Camille Przewodek, with a focus on landscape, still life, and figure.  Study at Marin School of Art, and continuing workshops with other Master Artists, have both transformed his approach to painting and broadened his abilities as a colorist.

The expression of atmospheric light through color in capturing changing seasons and time of day is now his lifelong pursuit.  Whether painting on location (in “plein air”) or in the studio, John draws inspiration from his love of horticulture and landscape as well as the Oakland/San Francisco urban landscape.

John is an Associate Member of the California Art Club.
